What sustainability means for the Middle East’s largest developer

It was a great honor for me, Guy Eames, Chairman of RuGBC, to moderate a discussion on sustainable development at the Kazan International Architecture and Construction Forum.

Mohamed Ali Rashed Alabbar, founder of Emaar Properties and Eagle Hills, one of the UAE’s leading businessmen, spoke at the plenary session “Sustainable Development as the Only Possible Strategy”.

Alabbar made his position clear: sustainable development is not just about material choice or energy efficiency. It is about quality, care and responsible behavior.

“If people in our buildings smile, feel part of the civilized world – then it’s sustainable architecture.”

The discussion was also attended by the Head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin and other officials, discussing investment projects that could be implemented in Kazan with the participation of Alabbar companies.

The plenary session was followed by a panel discussion with speakers from the BRICS countries, where the discussion continued on the role of sustainable construction in the global agenda.

Sustainable development is not just a trend, but the only possible way forward. 🌍🏗
